The Federal Government’s planned national OH&S laws water down the vital protection OH&S legislation offers police. We need to do something about it – here’s why…
In 2006, Gordy Wilson was killed on a dangerous section of the F3 freeway at Somersby while he was working as a police officer.
His safety was put at unnecessary risk and as a result, his family will be spending this Christmas without him.
If the laws go through there will be little hope for any effective prosecution for a breach of the OH&S laws. Without an effective enforcement regime, the government is under no pressure to learn from incidents like Gordy’s and make changes to ensure the safety of our police officers.
Our police deserve the basic protections of OH&S laws, including an effective enforcement regime, just like every other worker in Australia.
Our cops put their lives on the line to protect our streets – they deserve protection in return.
Kind regards,
Bob Pritchard
President
Police Association of NSW
